Pallet Rack and Good Project Management

Last week, our Raymond Handling Solutions project management team prevented possible on the job accidents before they could happened.

Last Thursday, I visited a pallet rack installation project with our engineered systems manager, Jim Saenz, and I saw first hand what value project management brings to a pallet rack systems job.

Jim asked me to stop by with him at a large parts distribution warehouse we are building the rack and shelving for in the Ontario, California area. His purpose was to stop in and check to see that our $1 million + project was running smoothly. It was late at night and it was our last stop of the day.

When we arrived, Jim noticed and made sure the following safe work practices were being employed:
  • working with proper safety equipment like hard hats, safety glasses, etc.
  • using construction equipment in ways intended for safe use.
  • moving work platforms in a safe manner.
  • following correct work procedures.
  • proper crew supervision was present on the job site.
At the job site, I saw a hard working crew doing their best to meet their project deadlines AND they had a project manager on site making sure that they worked productively but also safely.

Having Jim there, I realized that not only was the workers safety being protected, but the company on whose premises the work was being performed was being protected by having work safety emphasized and risk of liability being minimized.

I want to acknowledge Jim Saenz for being a demand for safe work practices and care on the work site. And I would like anyone who reads this, to really consider when purchasing rack, the project management capabilities of their supplier.

From the above experience, I know first hand what a difference it can make for everyone involved.

In the video, imagine this pallet rack installation project without project management. What are your thoughts? Have you seen unsafe work practices? What some good ideas you have for increasing workplace safety?
